Senior Legal Counsel

Our client is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join their team in Zug. They are a global energy and commodities firm with a presence in over 20 locations trades in oil, gas, biofuels, and renewables. It operates biofuel plants and collaborates on petrochemical decarbonization. Sustainability, inclusion, and diversity are core to its values.

Your responsibilities:

• Draft and negotiate contracts related to trade, supply chains, shipping, and commercial agreements
• Oversee international trade and shipping operations, addressing related legal and operational challenges
• Manage dispute resolution, including claims, arbitration, and litigation
• Handle insurance matters, including cargo, liability, and corporate policies
• Coordinate with external law firms and oversee outsourced legal work
• Develop and implement legal policies, guidelines, and procedures aligned with regulations and industry standards
• Provide legal insights on industry developments and contribute to internal training sessions
• Support compliance and ESG initiatives within the legal framework

Your qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience with a strong academic foundation
• Expertise in English law; an L.L.M. in a related field is beneficial
• Background in commodities, energy trading, or shipping is essential; experience with liquid or gas markets, shipping operations, or vessel management is a plus
• Strong analytical skills, sound judgement, and a collaborative mindset
• Business-oriented approach, providing clear, practical, and strategic legal advice
• High ethical standards with a strong understanding of compliance, governance, and risk management
• Proficiency in English and German, both written and spoken
