As the new year approaches, Swiss recruitment specialist Robert Walters has unveiled its annual salary survey, uncovering some noteworthy trends. An astounding 65% of Swiss professionals intend to switch jobs in 2025. Christian Atkinson, Country Director at Robert Walters Switzerland, sheds light on this remarkable trend.
Robert Walters' research shows that many professionals (65%) in Switzerland are considering a job switch in 2025. Christian explains: “The desire to change jobs is often driven by a variety of motives. For 57% of respondents, salary plays a decisive role. They hope to find better financial conditions with a new employer.
In addition, the survey highlights the influence of leadership and company culture. For example, 43% of respondents indicated that lack of effective leadership was a reason for seeking job happiness elsewhere. “Poor leadership practices can negatively affect the work experience,” Christian says. “Professionals look for an environment where they feel heard and where their development is encouraged.”
Despite 73% expecting to get a salary increase with their current employer in 2025, almost half (46%) say they will still look for a new job if that does not happen. Christian adds: “These numbers show how strongly salary expectations are linked to loyalty, particularly in a market where employers are competing fiercely to retain talent.”
While many are open to change, there are also strong reasons to remain loyal to the current employer. For 18% of respondents, flexible work options - such as working from home and flexible hours - remain a decisive motivation for not changing jobs. “Flexibility provides a work-life balance that professionals value enormously,” Christian says.
In addition, 13% stress that a competitive salary and attractive fringe benefits - such as health benefits and training opportunities - keep them happy. These benefits not only provide financial security but also contribute to their overall job satisfaction.
Finally, 11% of respondents indicated that the lack of better opportunities makes them stay. Current job security and opportunities for professional growth are important reasons for this group to remain steadfast.
Retaining talent requires a strategic approach that focuses on salary, flexibility and work culture. Our data confirm that professionals who feel their personal and professional needs are met are less likely to look elsewhere.
