(Senior) Legal Counsel - Gas & Power

We are partnering with a leading international energy company that is expanding its trading operations in Geneva and looking to appoint a Legal Counsel / Senior Legal Counsel with strong experience in European natural gas trading. This is an opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer to work closely with the trading business, initially focusing on financial gas trading and derivatives, with increasing involvement in physical gas trading as the business develops.

The Role

Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, you will provide hands-on legal support to the trading business, with responsibilities including:

• Advising on European natural gas trading activities, with an initial focus on financial trading and derivatives.

• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating ISDA agreements and related derivatives documentation.

• Advising on exchange rules, clearing arrangements and associated legal and contractual matters.

• Supporting the development of physical gas trading activities, including related commercial agreements.

• Working closely with traders and internal stakeholders to identify and manage legal and contractual risks.

• Providing practical, commercially focused legal advice in a fast-paced international trading environment.

Your Profile

• Qualified lawyer in a common-law jurisdiction.

• Relevant legal experience in European natural gas trading is essential, particularly within financial trading and derivatives. Experience exclusively in LNG trading will not be sufficient.

• Strong understanding of ISDA documentation, exchange-traded products and associated trading rules.

• Good understanding of European physical gas markets, with direct experience in physical gas trading contracts considered an advantage.

• Additional exposure to power trading would be beneficial.

• Commercially minded, pragmatic and comfortable working closely with trading teams.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Fluent English.
