A snapshot of the technology job market in Switzerland in 2025

The technology job market in Switzerland is set for significant growth and transformation in 2025, according to 2025 digital salary survey released just now by Swiss recruitment specialist Robert Walters. Driven by a rising demand for professionals in cybersecurity, digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence (AI) integration, roles in cloud computing, machine learning, automation, and data are becoming essential as organisations navigate digital transformations to stay competitive.

Jordan Cajot, Business Director of Technology & Transformation at Robert Walters, offers insights into the key trends shaping the tech landscape.

2024 trends set stage for 2025 talent race

In 2024, the tech sector saw a dip in job openings by about 16% compared to 2023, though demand peaked notably in February, April, July, and September. Despite this, permanent positions dominated the market, with 92% of tech job ads offering permanent contracts.

Top tech roles driving the market

As Switzerland’s tech market evolves, three key roles are expected to remain in high demand:

  • Integration Engineer
  • (Cyber) Security Engineer
  • Cloud Engineer

Cybersecurity is set to become a major focus, opening more opportunities for professionals skilled in safeguarding digital assets and mitigating cyber risks. As demand intensifies, competitive salaries for these roles will be essential for attracting and retaining top talent, especially as organisations prioritise digital resilience and operational efficiency in 2025.

Soft skills enhancing technical expertise

Beyond technical expertise, 2025 will also spotlight the importance of soft skills, enabling professionals to excel in collaborative and innovative environments. The top in-demand soft skills for IT professionals include:

  • Self-motivation: professionals who take the initiative and drive progress
  • Team player mindset: the ability to work cohesively in a team to foster innovation
  • Strong communication skills: essential for aligning tech goals with organisational strategies

What technology professionals value most in their employer

To attract and retain top tech talent, employers must provide a work environment that inspires and motivates. The features technology professionals prioritise include:

  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Excellent compensation & benefits
  • Inspiring colleagues and a motivating company culture

“As we move into 2025, the Swiss technology sector will remain dynamic, with opportunities shaped by advancing digital trends and shifting employer expectations. This landscape will drive a new era of growth, collaboration, and innovation across technology roles and sectors”, Jordan concludes.
