Ambitious job market: two out of three professionals plan a career move in 2026

The Swiss job market is buzzing with ambition, according to the latest salary survey by Swiss recruitment specialist Robert Walters. No less than 66% of the professionals surveyed say they want to take on a new professional challenge in 2026. These figures show not only high job mobility, but also the strong career awareness of Swiss employees.

“Professionals remain ambitious and focused on their careers, despite the economic uncertainties of recent years,” says Christian Atkinson, country director at Robert Walters Switzerland. “We are seeing employees becoming increasingly conscious of their careers. They are not waiting around but are actively taking control to determine their next step.”

More than just salary

Although salary continues to play a role (23% cite it as the main reason for change), today's professionals are looking beyond financial incentives. Many want opportunities for growth (16%) or a working environment where they feel valued.

“Employers who focus on development, appreciation and a strong corporate culture are responding precisely to what professionals are looking for today,” says Christian.

A good salary opens the door, but an inspiring work culture keeps people on board.

Transparency pays off

With 65% expecting a salary increase in 2026, open communication remains crucial. When clarity is lacking, the likelihood of turnover increases. “Professionals want to understand what their salary and growth are based on,” says Christian. “An open dialogue about remuneration and career paths strengthens trust and loyalty.”

The power of culture and flexibility

Positive work cultures remain the strongest asset of Swiss employers. 40% of professionals stay mainly because of strong team dynamics, 25% because of flexibility and a healthy work-life balance.

“Companies that invest in their people by offering clear growth paths, appreciation and trust will be the winners in the labour market in 2026,” concludes Christian.
