Staff Software Engineer - Trading Platform

Location: Zurich or remote (UTC / UTC+1 / UTC+2) Work Setup: Hybrid encouraged, on-site preferred Tech stack: TypeScript, NestJS; React, Redux, HTML5, CSS3; Kafka, WebSockets; PostgreSQL, Redis; OpenAPI, AsyncAPI; Docker, AWS EKS, Kong; Nx Monorepo, Git Submodules Our client, a fast-growing fintech startup based in Zurich, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to help architect and scale their next-generation trading platform. This is a high-impact role reporting directly to the CTO, with the opportunity to lead technical direction while remaining hands-on. You will collaborate with a talented, distributed engineering team to build secure, high-performance systems used by institutional clients.

You will

• Architect and evolve backend systems powering real-time trading workflows
• Lead development using TypeScript, NestJS, Kafka, and related technologies
• Drive deployment and infrastructure operations with AWS EKS, Docker, and Kong
• Maintain a modular codebase using Nx Monorepo and Git Submodules
• Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers across the team
• Collaborate closely with product and leadership teams to align on strategy and deliver impactful features

You bring

• 5+ years of full-stack development experience, with a strong backend focus
• Proven track record building and operating production-grade systems in fintech, trading, or real-time environments
• Deep knowledge of TypeScript, React, NestJS, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and Redis
• Familiarity with OpenAPI and AsyncAPI specifications
• Strong architectural thinking and experience with secure, scalable cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Docker, EKS)
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Educational background in STEM, e.g., maths, computer science, etc., or equivalent certifications
