Head of Engineering – Multi-Asset Trading Platform

We are seeking a senior engineering leader to build and lead engineering for a technology-led brokerage and prime services platform serving professional and institutional clients across global markets. The business operates a proprietary multi-asset trading platform and API-enabled infrastructure for active traders and institutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Engineering Leadership & Delivery: Assume end-to-end responsibility for software engineering across platform, product, and core trading technology. Raise delivery predictability, engineering quality, platform resilience, and release velocity.
• Platform Strategy: Partner with executive leadership, product, and commercial stakeholders to shape the next generation of a professional trading platform. Lead evolution of capabilities across execution, market data, analytics, screening, account workflows, integrations, and client-facing experiences.
• Low-Latency, High-Performance Systems: Own architecture and technical direction for low-latency, high-throughput trading systems handling real-time execution, market data distribution, and risk checks. Drive decisions on scalability, latency optimisation, concurrency, reliability, observability, and secure system design.
• Core Technology & Engineering Stack: Set technology direction and standards for core engineering with explicit focus on low-latency services, execution engines, and market data pipelines. Ensure code quality, performance engineering, and architectural governance across critical path components.
• Leadership of Engineering Organization: Build, lead, and develop a high-performing engineering organisation covering application engineering, platform engineering, quality, and core systems. Set direction for engineering managers and senior engineers, foster collaboration with product and business teams, and create a culture balancing speed, ownership, technical excellence, and operational discipline.
• Execution & Governance: Act as senior engineering counterpart to executive stakeholders on roadmap delivery, architecture, risk, security, and organisational planning. Introduce operating cadence, metrics, and decision frameworks to ensure alignment and accountability.

Profile

• Senior Engineering Leader in Trading or Capital Markets: 10+ years in software engineering leadership within brokerage, prime services, electronic trading, market infrastructure or hedge funds. Track record leading teams building platforms for professional users in regulated, high-availability environments.
• Multi-Asset Trading Domain Understanding: Familiarity with technology and workflows behind multi-asset trading across equities, ETFs, bonds, futures, options, commodities, and financing or custody services. Able to engage credibly on platform design for execution, market data, trading workflows, risk, account structures, and integrations.
• Low-Latency Systems Expertise: Proven track record designing and delivering low-latency, high-performance systems in Java and/or C++, with hands-on understanding of latency optimisation and performance profiling, concurrency and lock-free programming, efficient data structures, real-time market data feeds, order routing, execution logic, high-throughput event-driven architectures, and streaming pipelines.
• Architectural Depth with Product Mindset: Ability to lead architecture and engineering decisions in real-time, data-intensive systems while keeping focus on product usability and client impact. Comfortable across desktop, web, APIs, backend services, data flows, and performance-sensitive interfaces.
• Organisational Leadership at Scale: Experience leading senior engineers and managers across multiple teams or locations, with responsibility for hiring, structure, performance management, and capability building. Creates leverage through better engineering processes, clearer ownership, and stronger cross-functional collaboration.
• Execution-Oriented Leader: Experience improving engineering maturity in businesses undergoing scale-up, platform expansion, or organisational change. Combines strategic direction with a pragmatic, hands-on approach and ability to bring structure without slowing innovation.
• Fluent English.
